Yet another slight decline was observed for 2-by-4. Just before the last sales week of the year, the assortment reached a price level of US-$399/1000 bft. A year ago around Christmas time, it was still sold for US-$528/1000 bft. At an exchange rate of US-$1.14/€, European exporters currently receive €226/m³ which is €3 less than in the previous week.
The annual high of 2018 was reached in May with €400/m³ for European suppliers free Great Lakes region. Within 23 weeks, prices dwindled down to only €220/m³ This was the case in October. Ever since, the market has been looking for its rock bottom. Several large Canadian timber industries have most recently been cutting back production drastically. By now, this is showing effects.
