Enormous price decline within one week

Last week, the US market saw another strong price decline for softwood lumber. The price for 2-by-4 lost US-$28/1000 bft free Great Lakes region. This pushes down its value to the lowest level since calendar week 15 - which was in April.

A strengthened US dollar (US-$ 1.16/€) is dampening the decline for European suppliers. The weekly decline amounted to €12.5/m³. Compared to the peak price in calendar week 21, the selling price is already lacking €71/m³.

Still, the current level is €55/m³ higher than last year's price. German suppliers are still earning around €280/m³ ex works.
