Foreign sawn timber sales increased

According to preliminary data collected by Statistik Austria, exports totalled 1.91 million m³ in the first four months of 2018. Sales increased on almost all of the main export markets. Exports to Italy have been stable at 869,000 m³ (+1%). Sawn timber sales in Germany have seen a marked increase: Austria’s neighbour bought an additional 16%, i.e. a total of 343,000 m³.

More softwood sawn timber was exported to Slovenia (185,000 m³; +8%) and Japan (101,000 m³; +2%) as well. Developments in the US are remarkable: Austria’s exports to the overseas market soared by 333% to 47,000 m³ by the end of April.

Merely Croatia (55,000 m³; -14%), the Czech Republic (37,000 m³; -25%) and China (20,000 m³; -4%) bought less softwood sawn timber from Austria.
