While in the same period last year, it had still been 1.52 million m³, this year's March showed a decline of around 20% with a total of 1.21 million m³. This only applies to the Canadian region of British Columbia. Québec
exported 16.6% less to the neighbors in the south. In Ontario, exports lost 8.65%, and in Alberta the decrease even amounted to 28%, as the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Trade reports.

It is the trade conflicts between the two states in particular that play the crucial role in this strong export decline. In total, 17.4% less softwood lumber was exported to the US in the 1Q. Canadian prices for lumber also increased in response to the customs charges. A relaxation of the market situation is not in sight. Beneficiaries of this situation are for instance European exporting nations. Deliveries across the Atlantic show tremendous growth rates.
