Licensing chaos in Algeria

Article by Gerd Ebner, translated by Susanne Höfler | 01.09.2017 - 09:20

One of them was awarded to a private enterprise but has already been revoked in the meantime. The government argued that the license had been issued "by mistake".

The second major license was awarded to state-owned ENAP, which is now effectively the only remaining majo importer. Their first delivery tranche with a volume of 30,000 m³ was won by an Austrian enterprise. The ENAP holds a license for around 100,000 m³ in total, which will probably mean that another call for tenders will be issued.

Meanwhile, import trade employees are being let go due to the unclear situation. Apparently, the situation is similar for Algeria's steel and concrete sectors where stocks are also beginning to approach zero.

Another issueing of licenses has been announced for September.
