In the 1H, Israel imported 50 m³ softwood lumber per 1000 inhabitants; this constitutes a new record for their per capita expenditure. Gulf States UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait imported between 40 and 50 m³ per 1000 inhabitants. Of the North African countries, Egypt is number one at the per capita import volumes and even outperforms Italy, Austria's most important trade partner.

The differences within the region are enormous: With less than 5 m³ per 1000 inhabitants, countries like Iran, Syria, Iraq and Jordan can be found at the other end of the spectrum.
