Puidukoda, a local company which operates a planing mill in southern Estonia, is the new owner and plans to re-start operations as soon as possible. Around 100 employees are affected by the closure. With the purchase of the Näpi site, Puidukoda now owns a sawmill with an annual capacity of around 50,000 m³ of lumber, approximately 180,000 m³ of processed wood products and 25,000 t of pellets.
The transaction includes all the wood processing machinery but not the sawline, which was sold to a different buyer. The remaining sawmill equipment has been shipped to Stora Enso’s other production sites.
In June 2023, Stora Enso gave the lack of profitability, soaring raw material costs and bottlenecks in supply as main reasons for the closure of the site which ultimately led to its divestment.
