According to a press release, the plan to sell the paper mills is in line with the group’s corporate strategy to focus on the long-term growth potential of its renewable products in the segments packaging, building solutions and biomaterials innovations.

Stora Enso plans to divest its paper production sites Anjala in Finland, Hylte and Nymölla in Sweden and Maxau in Germany. In 2021, the group had invested nearly €50 million in the Anjala und Nymölla paper mills in order to make them more competitive.

Stora Enso’s Belgian production site in Langerbrugge will remain part of the group. The other four paper mills are to be divested either in one or in a series of transactions. As Stora Enso emphasizes, the company has not committed to a deadline for the conclusion of the sales process.
