In the first six months of 2024, Germany exported a total of 215,800 m³ beech logs. This year, 113,700 m³ were purchased by Austria (2024: 99,900 m³; +14%), and 35,200 m³ by Denmark (2024: 27,500 m³; +28%). In the first half of the year, Germany exported 35,000 m³ to Belgium, several times the 432 m³ that were delivered there in the same period last year. Germany primarily industrial beech logs Austria and Belgium.
According to data from China Customs Statistics, Chinese imports of beech logs from Germany totaled 183,200 m³ from January to June and were thus slightly lower than in the same period of 2024 (188,600 m³).
Meanwhile, beech log exports to India (14,900 m³; +139%), France (9,500 m³; +153%) and the Netherlands (7,300 m³; +154%) have more than doubled, as figures published by Destatis show.
According to the Datacube, Germany last exported a bigger volume of beech logs in the first half of 2019 (524,072 m³). An export level comparable to that of 2025 was reached in 2013 at 445,470 m³.
