Oak with a marked decrease, spruce with solid increases

After having reached the highest level so far this year in April, the producer price index for oak logs saw a marked decrease. The index for spruce logs, on the other hand, rose again slightly compared to the previous month.

In May, Destatis reports a producer price index of 126.6% for oak logs (base: 2015 = 100%). Compared to April, the index has lost 8.1 percentage points, after having risen by 5.6 points to 134.7% in the previous month. The price index for beech logs decreased slightly by 0.5 points month on month to 124.9% in May. Compared to the same month of 2024, it was up by 4.3 percentage points.

The German producer price index for spruce logs was at 109.9% in May, up by 0.8 points compared to April and by as many as 10.3 points compared to May 2024. B-grade spruce cuttings reached an index value of 118.2% in May. This corresponds to an increase of 1.3 percentage points compared to the previous month and of 13.8 points compared to May 2024, when the price index was at 104.4%.
