Log and lumber price indices keep rising

The Austrian price indices for log wood and lumber have increased continuously since September 2024.

The Austrian Timber Industry Association reports a log price index of 164.1% (base: January 2001 = 100%) for the month of May. Compared to April, the index value increased by 2.1 percentage points. Compared to May 2024 (151.3%), it was up by as many as 12.8 percentage points. Since September 2024, the log price index has increased month after month – by a total of 20.3 percentage points so far.

A similar development can be observed when it comes to the Austrian lumber price index. It rose by 2 percentage points month on month to 177.4% in May. Year on year (May 2024: 157.3%), an increase of 20.1 points was recorded. Since September 2024, the lumber price index has gained 21.7 points.
