From January to February, Austria imported 883,400 m³ of softwood sawlogs. According to Statistik Austria, this corresponds to a year-on-year decrease of 20% or 219,600 m³ (2024: 1.1 million m³). With the exception of the year 2022 (992,100 m³), import volumes have always been bigger than 1 million m³ since 2018. In 2020, a record was broken: In the first two months of that year, Austria imported 1.4 million m³ of softwood sawlogs, as you can see in the corresponding Datacube timeline.

Imports from Germany decreased by 9%, from 482,500 in the first two months of 2024 to 438,700 m³ in the same period of this year. Purchases of Czech softwood sawlogs were down by 27% and totaled only 291,500 m³, while imports from Slovenia decreased by 8.5% to 74,700 m³. In fact, a downward trend can be observed in imports from eight of the Top 10 supplying countries in January and February.

Bigger volumes of softwood sawlogs were imported only from Slovakia (11,500 m³; +44%) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (598 m³; +189%), as figures published by Statistik Austria show.
