Article by Philipp Matzku (translated by Eva Guzely) | 21.10.2024 - 15:13

China bought 219,000 m³, accounting for nearly half of Germany’s total beech log exports (49%). Year on year, the trade volume has increased by 30% (2023: 169,000 m³). 138,000 m³ (+15%) were exported to Austria in the first eight months. Thus, the two main foreign markets purchased 79% or 357,000 m³ of the total export volume.

Scandinavian countries Sweden (32,000 m³; +47%) and Denmark (25,000 m³; +80%) follow in third and fourth place, respectively. The downward trend in Japan continued, with trade volumes decreasing by 27%, from 4,500 m³ in the first eight months of 2023 to 3,100 m³ this year. In contrast, beech log exports to India grew by 78%, from 3,900 m³ to 6,900 m³.

As always, you can track the detailed development of German beech log exports in the Foreign trade section of our Datacube.
