At the beginning of January, Paulina Hennig-Kloska, Poland’s climate and environment minister, took the first steps to limit logging at a national level. Already last year, a reform of the Polish State Forests had been announced.

According to Hennig-Kloska, the protection and conservation of valuable natural forests, which are used as recreational areas by countless inhabitants of nearby towns and cities, are the main reasons for partly halting logging in forests.

In a first phase, limitations to logging will apply in a total of ten selected forests (mainly in the north and southeast of the country).
