After storm “Ciara”, the state-owned company Lesy České republiky (LČR) now officially reports around 950,000 m³ of damaged wood. The South Bohemian forests and the Highlands and Plzeň regions were most affected. The company estimates the damage at CZK 250 to 300 million (€ 10 to 12 million). In South Bohemia, the storm felled around 355,000 m³. There, the forests near the city of Nové Hrady at the Austrian border were most affected. In order to protect forests from bark beetles, the removal of damaged trees is started quickly and priority is given to spruce trees. The damaged wood is to be removed by the end of May.
