Hessia

No logging until mid-2019

Reasons for the suspended logging are the strong beetle infestation, the tense market situation of softwood lumber, the remaining windthrow processing works and the concentration of the limited work capacity on hardwood logging, Hessen Forst informs.

The logging stop pertains to all softwood types and assortments in the state forest company until June 30th, 2019. Until now, Hessen Forst has processed 1.1 million sm³ of windfallen wood from storm front "Friederike" in January. The remaining 400,000 sm³ should be taken care of until March 2019 at the latest.

Local storm "Fabienne" (September 23rd) only hit South Hessia (Darmstadt, Groß-Gerau area) causing damaged wood volumes of 11,000 sm³ where mainly hardwoods were affected.
