Illegal lumbering in Poland

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled that timber utilizations in the Bialowieza primeval forest in Poland were a violation of EU law. This ruling has been preceded by an environmental campaign of several years.

Several environmental organization showed that lumberings in the Bialowieza primeval forest violated Polish and European law. As a consequence, the EU commission brought the matter to the European Court of Justice in July 2017. The ECJ ruled recently that the increase of logging quotas by the Polish Ministry of the Environment were illegal.
