Article by Martin Heidelbauer, translated by Susanne Höfler | 23.08.2017 - 12:52

Supply and demand for beech lumber almost coincide. Only weaker dimensions are expected to show weaker demand. The anticipated prices match last year's price range. The general opinion is that timber of quality D will come under slight pressure.

The seller's market for oak has been extreme for years, and there is no end in sight. Forest holdings are signaling stable supply volumes. Whether the prices for the market-dominating oak flooring assortments can be increased or whether market shares will be lost to the American oak is a matter of debate.

With regards to the ash tree, price stability is anticipated despite the prevalent calamity. Loggings for the sake of forest health should however be made with sound judgment. Remaining softwood types like cherry, alder or sycamore should only be submitted in selceted specimen.
