Spruce prices today have more than recovered from recurring storm-related slumps in recent decades. The diagram shows how the biggest windfalls of the past decades have affected timber price and consumer price indices. Most destructive were hurricanes Vivian and Wiebke in February 1990 and Lothar in December 1999, when 100 million sm³ and 180 million sm³ of timber, respectively, were brought to the ground. Repercussions on the price, however, were much more severe in 1990 than nine years later, according to the figures provided by Destatis.
