RST-Pellet acquired and expanded Moderator’s pellet mill

Article by Michael Fehrle (translated by Eva Guzely) | 03.12.2025 - 11:52

The Moderator shareholders had put the pellet mill up for sale since there was no successor. Following the purchase, RST-Pellet installed a third press. Instead of the previous one, i.e. Italian manufacturer Zepi Tecnologie, Tregnago, Salmatec, Gödenstorf was chosen as supplier. Production capacity will increase from 30,000 to 50,000 t a year. In the coming months, a decision is expected to be made on an extension of the existing belt dryer.

At the Udbina mill, hardwood, primarily beech, accounts for approximately 60% of the raw material used. In addition to sawmill byproducts, log wood can be processed as well.

At the pellet mill in Delnice, RST-Pellet put a new log processing facilities into operation in the summer of 2024. The chain debarker and drum chipper, built by Bentele Technologie, Sittersdorf/Carinthia, can debark beech and spruce logs with a maximum diameter of 72 cm and chip logs of up to 110 cm in diameter. The production capacity in Delnice is 73,000 t a year. RST-Pellet purchased the site of the Delnice mill from Agriplant, Conegliano/IT, in 2018. The pellet mill that was originally planned by Agriplant for the Croatian site was then built by RST-Pellet and commissioned in April 2019. Riegler & Zechmeister acquired a 50% stake in RST-Pellet in July 2022.
