Just last year, Germany’s pellet imports from the US were hardly worth mentioning. In the months from January to September of this year, however, 94,000 t of (mostly industrial-quality) pellets were imported from there, which corresponds to one quarter of Germany’s total imports. The months of January (29,300 t), April (29,400 t) and September (32,400 t) were the strongest in terms of import volumes. In the remaining months, a total of just 2,300 t of pellets was imported from the US.

80,000 t were bought from Denmark in the first nine months. Year on year, purchases from this supplying country increased by 9%.

Imports from Poland fell by 45% to 48,000 t. In the first nine months of last year, Germany had still imported 90,000 t of pellets from its neighbor in the east.

Double-digit increases were recorded in shipments coming from Belgium (+47%; from 28,000 to 41,000 t) and Ukraine (+32%; from 23,000 to 30,000 t).
