German pellet production up by 6% on 2021

In 2022, 3.6 million tons of wood pellets were produced in Germany, which corresponds to an increase of 6.4% or 216,000 tons compared to the year before. In the fourth quarter of 2022, output amounted to 866,000 tons, which is 26,000 tons more than in the same quarter of 2021.

From October to December 2022, the German pellet industry produced 866,000 tons, i.e. 3.6% more than in the fourth quarter of 2021 (840,000 tons). Compared to the third quarter of 2022 (946,000 tons), output decreased by 8.5%. Compared to the full year 2020 (3.1 million tons), pellet production grew by 15.1% in 2022, while a 26.5% increase was recorded compared to 2019 (2.82 million tons).

According to the German Pellets Institute (DEPI), the quarterly pellet production quantities always exceeded those of the respective quarters of 2021.
