For the current year, producers are planning a further increase of 3% to an output of nearly 3 million m³ – which would be a new record level. Austrian manufacturers are the main drivers of growth in 2025, with a year-on-year increase of 30,000 m³, or 2%, that brings the full-year output to 1.54 million m³. Binderholz recorded the strongest growth: In Jenbach/AT, the largest single glulam production site in the DACH region, the Tyrolean company increased production by 15,000 m³ to 280,000 m³. As for 2026, Binderholz plans to keep production stable at this level.
Mayr Melnhof Holz in Gaishorn/AT (160,000 m³) and Mosser in Randegg/AT (170,000 m³) each increased their production output by 10,000 m³. Meanwhile, Stora Enso produced significantly less glulam at its site in Ybbs/AT. At 40,000 m³, output was 12,000 m³ below the 2024 level.
Growth in Bremerhaven
In Germany, Cordes’s production site in Bremerhaven recorded the biggest increase. Commissioned in 2022, the factory reported a glulam output of 70,000 m³ last year, up from 50,000 m³ in 2024. This year, Cordes is planning to produce 80,000 m³ there.
Thüringer Holzwerke Hermsdorf reported the sharpest decrease. Output at the former Ziegler site halved compared to 2024, totaling only 25,000 m³.
Two small companies exit, one big newcomer enters the stage
Insolvent company Holzbau van Kempen, Oelde/DE, will be featured in the Holzkurier’s glulam table for the last time. In April, it was decided to close the production site. Current orders are to be processed by summer. Van Kempen produced around 3,000 m³ of glulam a year.
The situation of Zechner Lärchen-System-Holz in Reichenfels/AT is similar. Founded in 2018, the company, with an annual output of a few thousand cubic meters, is no longer producing and plans to terminate its operations at the end of the year.
Timber construction company Hörmann, which specializes in the construction of halls, caused quite a sensation. Not far from its headquarters in Buchloe/DE, the company is building an integrated production facility on a 12-hectare site, including a sawmill, a glulam plant with a joinery area, and pellet mill. The glulam line is scheduled to go into operation in 2027 and will have an annual capacity of approximately 60,000 m³. Hörmann manufactures around 700 halls a year. According to estimates by the Holzkurier, this construction volume makes the company the largest single buyer of glulam in Germany, with an annual demand of at least 30,000 m³.

More than nine out of ten cubic meters of glulam produced in Austria left the country in 2025. Specifically, a total of 1.4 million m³ were exported, mostly to neighboring Italy (625,000 m³), Germany (224,000 m³) and Switzerland (124,000 m³). Japan was the most important non-European export market with a trade volume of 81,000 m³.
If you add the small import volume to production output and then subtract exports, the result is domestic consumption of 169,000 m³ – assuming constant inventories.
Germany exported almost half of its 2025 production output, i.e. 656,000 m³. The majority was sold to Switzerland (252,200 m³) and France (105,000 m³).
Comparing the production volume with imports and exports results in domestic consumption of 1.06 million m³. This corresponds to almost 80% of the glulam produced.
Market situation remains tense
The glulam market is characterized by stagnation and high pressure on prices. Producers did attempt to raise prices by around €25/m³ but failed. According to industry experts, the mere announcement of these increases prompted some customers to halt any orders. At the end of April, prices in Germany and Italy therefore remained within a range of €550 to €575/m³.
Glulam lamellas also came under pressure. The most recently observed price range was €322 to €338/m³, with Scandinavian suppliers in particular representing the lower end of the price scale.
The increase in sales volumes anticipated after Easter largely failed to materialize. Some market participants even described the business situation as weaker than before the holidays. However, a mixed picture emerges at a regional level: In southern Germany, the order situation is described as good, even though industrial-grade products are in short supply there. In central and northern Germany, activity remains at a much lower level. With stable lead times of seven to ten days, market participants expect prices to remain largely unchanged in May.
