Outlook for the second quarter of 2025

  • Lumber: Further price increases of around €20/m³ have been announced for the second quarter in the DACH region. These increases before the start of the actual construction season are primarily the result of rising log prices.
  • Scandinavia: Log prices are rising at a faster rate in Sweden and Finland than in Central Europe. While the price increases in Finland are accompanied by better supply, there is a shortage of log wood in southern and parts of central Sweden. In the second quarter, prices for deliveries to the UK and Denmark will rise by €35 to €50/m³. In Germany, the price of glulam lamellas remains significantly below the level of domestic products.
  • USA: The recent price increase is solely the result of uncertainty on the market. Potential duties on SPF lumber are already partially included in prices. If tariffs are actually imposed on Canadian goods on April 2, a “month of chaos” could follow – and Canadian market prices would definitely continue to rise.
  • MENA region: Demand remains strong, especially in the Gulf region. In North Africa, yet another change in the Algerian import system makes the wood products trade more difficult. Nevertheless, there is demand and the willingness to buy on all Maghreb markets.
  • Glued timber: The increase in raw material prices could push glulam (€600/m³) and solid structural timber (>€400/m³) above key price levels. As for CLT, the order situation is better than the low price level would suggest.
