Prices for bulk volumes of visible quality glulam now range from €515 to €525/m³. In Italy, a slightly smaller increase of €4/m³ was recorded. As a result, glulam costs between €510 and €530/m³ there in September.
Further increases in Q4
In conversations with the manufacturers, it became clear that a further price increase is expected at the start of the fourth quarter, mainly due to rising prices for lamellas.
The average price of lamellas (dried, Germany, bulk quantities) was up by €5/m³ compared to August and reached €277/m³ in September. Growing demand this month led to falling inventory levels and longer lead times. It is thus possible that lamella prices will be raised further. In fact, Central European sawmills have already announced increases of €5 to €10/m³ in the fourth quarter.
Scandinavian suppliers are still discussion whether fourth quarter prices will then be below or above the €300/m³-mark.
At the moment, demand is noticeably more dynamic throughout Europe, although least so in Germany.
When it comes to glulam, supply and demand are finally balanced. It took the industry 35 years to achieve that.
