Swedish furnishings retailer Ikea has acquired yet another 12,800 ha of forest in Romania, as business-review.eu reports. Only last year, the Swedes purchased 33,600 ha of Romanian forest for € 57 million via their subsidiary IRI Investments. By now, this makes Ikea the largest forest owner in the country. Future plans include further new acquisitions. The company's headquarters informs that Ikea intends to administer the areas responsibly.
Apart from the retail and forestry sectors, Ikea's activities in Romania also include their real estate subsidiary Vastint România.
In the first quarter of 2024, West Fraser of Vancouver/CA generated US-$1.6 billion (€1.5 billion) in sales and reported earnings of US-$35 million (€32.7 million).
