The new office building of Hasslacher Preding Holzindustrie has three floors with a gross floor area of 2,221 m². Thanks to the use of wood, it was built in just eight months. This flagship project impresses with its complex, modern architecture and striking cantilevers, which are not only aesthetically sophisticated but also contemporary. The visible wooden surfaces are particularly impressive: They create a pleasant working and indoor climate and make the building’s sustainability tangible even on the inside.

Around 1,000 m³ of wood products manufactured by the Hasslacher Group were used for the timber frame construction and the prefabricated façade system. For the flat roof, ceilings, and some of the partition walls, 655 m³ of Hasslacher cross-laminated timber were produced and finished with a so-called Exzellent surface made of spruce. These Exzellent lamellae set new standards with minimal gaps and reduced cracking in the surface layer. 232 m³ of glulam were used for the timber frame structure alone. Structural components in the cantilevered areas that have to withstand high loads are made of birch glulam, which is characterized by its unique look and strong mechanical properties. The Hasslacher Group argues that load-bearing structures and support structures with wide spans can be built with this material while also meeting high aesthetic standards. Outside of the building, 22 m³ of façade boards and 222 m² of decking were installed.
Lumber and solid structural timber were also among the materials used. In fact, all products – with the exception of the flooring and acoustic ceilings, which were supplied by Admonter Holzindustrie – were manufactured by the Hasslacher Group. Thanks to the early involvement of Holzbau Hofer, Hasslacher Group’s executing subsidiary, and perfectly timed scheduling, as well as prefabrication in the factory, the timber building shell was completed in just under six weeks.
Sustainability as key priority
Hasslacher Preding Holzindustrie’s new administrative building is the result of environmentally friendly construction methods. The building was subject to the strict PEFC guidelines for project certification, and particular attention was paid to using PVC- and halogen-free materials when selecting construction products.
A large part of the flat roof is green in order to counteract soil sealing, and the landscaping was done accordingly. A photovoltaic system, which also powers the charging stations for electric bicycles and cars, supplies energy. Modern technologies, such as controlled ventilation with heat recovery and a heat pump system, ensure an energy-efficient indoor climate.
PEFC award-winning
Hasslacher Holding has received the PEFC Award in the category “Chain of Custody (CoC)” for its new office building in Preding. Every component can be traced back to the raw material used for its production. The entire chain of custody had to be proven in three audits (initial audit, interim audit, and final acceptance).
Intelligent building technology
The building is equipped with smart technologies: A sophisticated sun protection system and controlled ventilation with heat recovery, as well as an energy-efficient heat pump system for heating and cooling the office spaces ensure a comfortable indoor climate in every season. A 12-m-high wall covered with moss extends across the entire foyer and atrium, and regulates humidity. It also lends the building the distinctive style of the Hasslacher Group, true to the company’s motto “From wood to wonders”.
Project partners and key facts
The Hasslacher Group is the client for the project, while Trecolore Architects designed the building. Luggin – Ziviltechnikergesellschaft was responsible for the structural engineering and construction. The building owner is Hasslacher Preding Holzindustrie. The timber structure was erected in just six weeks, and the project as a whole was completed in 2024.
