The only certain thing is that the town of Freiburg im Breisgau/DE will get a new stadium to be built on the premises of a former airfield. Yet there is some debate going on as to the building material used for it. In mid-May, the Freiburg city council commissioned the city administration at the request of the Green Party and the Social Democrats to examine the option of a timber construction for the new stadium. This happened against the will of Green politician and Lord Mayor Dieter Salomon and despite building administrator Martin Haag’s fear of higher cost, reports the Badische Zeitung newspaper.

The idea of the wooden stadium is promoted by Meinrad Joos, president of the forest commission of the community. He says: "If we're going to build a new Black Forest stadium it would be nice if it had a piece of Black Forest in it." Regardless of all the discussions, Daniel Ebermann – an expert of 3D-visualizations and not involved in the project – elaborated a rendering of the stadium in wood design already a year ago.
