The Gulf states are hungry for sawn timber. At present, however, there are only small logistical backdoors through which material enters the region. One such bottleneck is now the Saudi port of Jeddah. From there, certain quantities are transported by truck to the interior of Saudi Arabia or to major construction sites in Qatar. Sawn timber for other destinations is temporarily stored on site until buyers can be found in Saudi Arabia or neighboring countries. "Customers are willing to pay additional costs. Their construction projects must not stand still," says the market.
