From January to September, exports totaled 4.7 million m³, reaching the highest level since 2008, when 5.5 million m³ of softwood lumber were exported, as figures published by Statistik Austria show.

Exports to Italy remained constant at 2 million m³. Meanwhile, softwood lumber deliveries to Germany were up by around a third and amounted to 766,000 m³. This is the largest trade volume in four years (January to September 2021: 926,000 m³), as you can see in the Datacube.

Exports to Slovenia, however, decreased by 7% year on year to 352,000 m³. A negative development can also be observed in shipments to Japan (-5% to 143,000 m³).

Austria recorded increases in trade with Croatia (+7% to 151,000 m³), the Czech Republic (+7% to 134,000 m³), the USA (+27% to 91,000 m³), Saudi Arabia (+39% to 75,000 m³), and France (+10% to 74,000 m³). Switzerland also received more softwood lumber from its neighbor (+4% to 70,000 m³).
