Slight increase in exports in the first four months

From January to April, Sweden exported around 4.81 million m³ of softwood lumber and planed timber, recording a year-on-year increase of about 190,000 m³.

Great Britain remains the number one buyer with a trade volume of just under 970,000 m³ and an increase of 7% compared to the first four months of last year. An upward trend can also be observed in exports to the US (443,000 m³; +4%) and the Netherlands (407,000 m³; +7%), which rank second and third, respectively.

The otherwise important Egyptian market, on the other hand, was rather weak in the first four months of this year. Softwood lumber exports there decreased by 9% to less than 400,000 m³. As a look in the Datacube shows, the Egyptian sales market has been very volatile for many years. In the past decade, trade volumes fluctuated between 230,000 m³ (2018) and nearly 595,000 m³ (2020).

Austria plays a negligible role as foreign market, having received only 15,000 m³ of Swedish softwood lumber. 260,000 m³, i.e. 7% less than last year, were delivered to Germany so far.
