From January to November 2024, Italy imported 3.77 million m³ of softwood lumber (incl. planed timber), recording a year-on-year decrease of around 3%, as figures published by Eurostat show.
Increases were recorded in imports from only two of the Top 10 supplying countries, i.e. France (82,000 m³; +37%) and Switzerland (78,000 m³; +29%).
Austria (2.1 million m³; -1%) remained Italy’s main supplier with a share of 55% in total Italian imports. Deliveries from Germany decreased by 6% to 527,000 m³, while those from Finland were down by 5% and amounted to only 225,000 m³. Furthermore, a marked decrease was also recorded in purchases from the Czech Republic (189,000 m³; -10%).
