Softwood lumber exports with a slight decrease

According to figures published by the Finnish statistical office, Finland exported 7.5 million m³ of softwood lumber and planed timber in the first eleven months of 2024. In the same period of 2023, exports had totaled 7.7 million m³.

Shipments to main buyer Egypt grew by 15% to 1.1 million m³. Japan received 694,000 m³ of Finnish softwood lumber, i.e. 25% more than in the first eleven months of 2023. Increases were also recorded in exports to Estonia (596,000 m³; +4%), Germany (429,000 m³; +2%) and Saudi Arabia (362,000 m³; +3%).

Great Britain, which ranks third among the main foreign markets for Finnish softwood lumber, received 602,000 m³ (-5%) in the months from January to November 2024. Shipments to China decreased by 37% to 458,000 m³. A downward trend can also be observed in exports to France (401,000 m³; -13%), Israel (307,000 m³, -9%), the Netherlands (205,000 m³; -5%) and to other countries (2.3 million m³; -5%).
