Article by Martina Nöstler (translated by Eva Guzely) | 05.01.2024 - 10:29

In the first three quarters of 2023, softwood lumber production (incl. planed timber) totaled 17.55 million m³ in Germany. Compared to the same period of last year (18.68 million m³), output fell by 6% or around 1.1 million m³. Compared to 2021, a decrease of 11% or nearly 2.2 million m³ was recorded. Thus, in 2023, the German sawmill industry almost reached the softwood lumber output of 2019 (17.69 million m³) and produced more than in 2018 (17.26 million m³).

In the third quarter of 2023, a total of 5.56 million m³ of softwood lumber and planed timber were produced in Germany, which corresponds to a 2.4% decrease compared to the previous quarter.
