In the first six months, 2.1 million m³ of softwood lumber, i.e. nearly one quarter (23%) of China’s total imports, came from Europe (incl. Belarus and Ukraine). In the same period of 2022, European countries accounted for only 18%.
Shipments from Sweden grew by 86% in the first half-year and amounted 524,000 m³. The country is now almost equal to Finland, China’s third biggest supplier.
Massive increases were also recorded in imports from Germany and Belarus which were both up by 84%, reaching a total of 472,000 m³ and 431,000 m³, respectively.
Ukraine has seen a big decrease this year, with China only buying 34,000 m³ of softwood lumber, i.e. nearly 80% less than in 2022.
