Chinese softwood lumber imports increased

In the months from January to May, China imported 7.8 million m³ of softwood lumber, i.e. 15% more than in the same period of last year.

In the first five months, the biggest import volume, i.e. 4.8 million m³, came from Russia. Compared to the same period of last year, Russia’s shipments of softwood lumber to China increased by 7.5%. Canada follows in second place with 578,000 m³ (-5%), while Sweden is China’s third biggest supplier with 476,000 m³ (+92%).

Germany shipped 423,500 m³ of softwood lumber (+87%) to China from January to May. Austria used to be among the Top 10 supplying countries until April. However, a 41% decrease, which brought the total to 26,000 m³, led to Austria being only in 16th place.
