Again more German lumber to the US

Article by Gerd Ebner (translated by Eva Guzely) | 13.05.2022 - 09:30

In January, 180,000 m³ had been exported to the US, followed by 210,000 m³ in February and 280,000 m³ in March. There has thus been a steep upward trend. In fact, in the past 17 years, Germany has never shipped that much across the Atlantic in one month like in March this year. German exports are returning to levels which they have not been at since “door opener” Klausner started exporting lumber to the US at a large scale.

Monthly US volumes the same as other countries’ quarterly volumes

Every month, the US received as much softwood lumber (220,000 m³) as Germany’s neighboring countries did in three months. Double-digit decreases, on the other hand, were recorded in exports to Belgium (216,000 m³; -12%), Austria (214,000 m³; -23%), France (213,000 m³; -17%) and the Netherlands (212,000 m³; -18%).

Softwood lumber exports to Great Britain fell sharply by nearly 40% in the first quarter, reaching only 116,000 m³.
