In January, Sweden exported 938,500 m³ of softwood lumber and planed timber, recording a 7% increase compared to the same month of last year, when exports had totaled 879,000 m³. However, the export volume is still smaller than in the years of 2017 and 2020, as a look in the Datacube shows.
The US, Sweden’s main buyer, received 134,000 m³ and thus 401% more than in January 2021, when 27,000 m³ had been bought. Other important export markets for Swedish softwood lumber were Great Britain (120,000 m³; -44%); Egypt (92,500 m³; +116%), the Netherlands (65,000 m³; -14%), Norway (63,000 m³; +0.6%), Denmark (61,000 m³; -15%), Japan (60,000 m³; +7%) and China (58,000 m³; +103%). Lumber shipments to Germany fell by 13%, from 52,000 in January 2021 to 45,000 m³ in the same month of this year.
