Austrian softwood lumber exports rise

Article by Robert Spannlang | 06.02.2018 - 17:51

Austria exported 5.12 million m3 of softwood lumber in the first eleven months of 2017. Compared with the same period in 2016, this represents an increase of 3%. The two top export markets were able to further consolidate their positions: With 2.47 million m3, Italy received 9% more Austrian lumber than in 2016. This means that more than half of the Austrian sawn timber exports went to the neighbor in the south. To Germany shipments rose by 5% to 915,000 m3. By the end of November, orders from Croatia had gained 10% to hit 181,000 m3.

Deliveries to Slovenia fell by almost a quarter compared to 2016 (444,000 m3, -24%). So did Austrian softwood lumber shipments to Japan – losing 6% to 262,000 m3.
