It will be difficult to develop the location in Norsälven in the direction of a future-oriented and profitable plant, even if the company were to invest heavily, explains Anders Lindh, division manager of Molven Timber in a press release. In the current year the plant still achieved a "relatively positive result", it says.
Yielding an annual turnover of SEK 200 million (€ 21 million), SEK 70 million (€ 7.35 million) would have to be invested over the next three years in order to achieve a reasonable result. At the same time, the company does not expect any longer-term profitability.
The focus will be on Moelven’s sites of Valåsen and Notnäs, which can compensate for the missing quantity. Customers and suppliers are not affected by a possible plant closure. The factory is specialized in processing pine, 65% of which is exported. With frame and band saw technology, 44 employees produce around 80,000 m3/yr.
