Metsä Wood, Helsinki, plans to temporarily shut down its spruce sawmills in Vilppula and Renko. The suspension of operations is planned for a maximum of three weeks. This is due to the oversupply and price competition in the spruce lumber market which has brought prices under severe pressure, Metsä announced in a press release.
Currently, negotiations are being conducted with employee representatives. For August an agreement is planned. In November, the plan is to be implemented.
The same goes for pine lumber, where the company finds itself in a difficult market situation. Closures of pine sawmills, however, have not yet been reported.
