In 3Q 2013, the North American west coast saw 50% more lumber and 25% more roundwood shipped off its ports than during the same period last year, reported the Pacific Northwest Research Station of the US Forest Service. From July to September, the US states of California, Oregon, Washington and Alaska and the Canadian province of British Columbia exported 279 million bft of sawn timber worth US-$ 200 million (€ 147 million) and 514 million bft roundwood with a value of US-$ 349 million (€ 257 million).

The largest customer is China. 41% of the lumber and 64% of the logs shipped were destined for the Middle Kingdom.
