As woodnet.se reported earlier today, fire broke out in Fiskarhedens sawmill in the Swedish Dalarna region last Friday afternoon. It was said to have been caused by a clogged suction pipe of the flue gas cleaning system. The fire started in the boiler room and quickly spread to other parts of the building. It took the firefighters several hours to bring it under control. The fire is said to have destroyed a loading vehicle. According to sawmill manager Olle Larson, the blast may cause a downtime of up to two weeks and the damage may amount up to SEK 70 million (€ 8.2 million).
The event is even more tragic as a fire has destroyed most of the sawmill only last May. In January the management of Fiskarhedens announced their plans to double the production capacity from 220,000 m³ to 400,000 m³ of softwood lumber.
