Moderate growth expected in 2025

Looking back, 2024 was the most challenging year for the European construction industry since the start of the Covid pandemic in 2020, the forecasting network Euroconstruct is quoted as saying in the latest ITTO report. Last year, construction activity in the 19 Euroconstruct member states decreased by another 2.4% compared to 2023. At the recent conference in Milan, however, hope was expressed for a slight upturn in 2025. Internally, Euroconstruct expects moderate growth in Europe, primarily from the renovation sector and non-residential construction – both of which have recently fallen short of expectations, though. According to the economic experts, however, the biggest impetus is to be expected from infrastructure construction. Public investment in the expansion of transport and energy infrastructure is expected especially in the next two years.

Looking ahead to 2025, the German construction industry is unlikely to benefit greatly from a small upturn across Europe, according to the Euroconstruct members. Internally, the network expects a small decline. Italy is even at risk of facing a further decrease of almost 5%. The strongest growth is expected in the north, especially in Ireland, Sweden and Norway, where increases of over 5% each are forecast.
