At 6.3 million tonnes (+10% compared to 2023), paper, cardboard and containerboard for packaging had the biggest share in production, their export share being 57% in the first half-year, up by 2 percentage points year on year.
According to the German association of the paper and pulp industry “Die Papierindustrie”, the production output of graphic paper increased by 2.5% compared to the first six months of 2023 and totaled 2.1 million tonnes. Just as last year, 48% of the graphic paper produced was exported.
No changes were reported in the production output of tissues and hygiene products (691,000 t). Compared to the other products, tissues and hygiene products had an export share of only 3%.
From January to June, the member companies produced 770,000 tonnes of paper and cardboard for technical and special uses, i.e. 6% more than in the same period of 2023. 46% of the production output was exported.
The consumption of recycled paper grew by 8% and reached a total of 8.3 million tonnes.
