Article by Jakob Wassermann (translated by Eva Guzely) | 08.08.2025 - 08:48

According to Statistik Austria, Austria imported 2.3 million m³ of softwood logs from January to May, recording a year-on-year decrease of 358,000 m³ or 13%. As a result, Austrian softwood log imports are now at the lowest level since 2017.

1.1 million m³, i.e. 5% less than in the first five months of 2024, were imported from Germany. Import volumes from the Czech Republic (813,000 m³; -15%), Slovenia (172,000 m³; -15%) and Italy (159,000 m³; -32%) were also much smaller than last year. Austria also reduced its purchases of softwood logs from Switzerland (19,000 m³; -21%).

Slovakia (23,000 m³; +12%) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (2,000 m³; +145%) were the only supplying countries in the Top 10 that saw their deliveries to Austria increase.
