In January 2025, Germany exported just over 68,000 m³ of beech logs, recording a substantial year-on-year increase of 44%. It is also the biggest export volume of the past six years.
As figures published by Destatis show, this positive development is not primarily the result of main buyer China purchasing more (30,600 m³; +12%). Rather, Austria (19,800 m³; +53%) and Belgium are the drivers. The latter hardly purchased any beech logs from Germany in January 2024. At the start of this year, though, Belgium imported 5,800 m³. Denmark, too, has made it into the Top 3 following a fivefold increase to 6,400 m³. Furthermore, India is also on the rise and has become a relevant buyer of German beech logs (2,200 m³; +877%).
