At 11.97 million m³, the total volume of log wood harvested in 2024 increased by 336,000 m³ compared to 2021, as the Norwegian Agriculture Agency (Landbruksdirektoratet) reports. 605,000 m³ of the harvested wood were logs for energy generation. In 2024, the gross sales value was €170 million (NOK 2 billion) or 33% higher than in the previous year.
Last year also saw increases in prices for sawlogs and pulpwood in Norway. The average wood price rose from NOK 602/m³ (€51/m³) in January to NOK 762/m³ (€65/m³) in December. According to the Agriculture Agency, this increase is mainly the result of the international shortage of raw material due to calamities and the ban on log exports introduced by Russia a while ago.
The record-breaking log harvest in 2024 is due to the strong demand for wood, high wood prices and good operating conditions in the winter of 2024.
