Austrian imports of softwood logs grew by 12.7% to 1.093 million solid m³ in the first three months compared to the same period last year. The Czech Republic again increased its sales volumes: 495.000 fm (+35.4%) came from Austria's northern neighbor. This is also where the surplus in total imports came from. With 280,000 sm³, Germany was still No. 2, according to Statistics Austria, which is almost 20% down from shipments a year ago.
On a significantly lower level was Slovakia, ranking third on the list of Austrian log suppliers: Yet 82,000 sm³ means that the Slovaks almost doubled their log deliveries compared to the first quarter of 2012. With 56,000 fm, Ukrainian shipments were 135% up from a year ago.
