Never before have more pellets been produced in Germany in the first three months of a year than this year – 948,000 t © Timber-Online.net
German pellet production increased by 40,000 t both compared to the fourth quarter of 2024 and the first quarter of 2024. In the second quarter of 2024 (949,000 t), output exceeded the current level by only 1,000 t.
At 17%, the share of bagged pellets is much lower than in the previous quarter (28.1%) and the first quarter of last year (20,1%). The use of sawmill byproducts for pellet production amounted to 92.9% and is thus at a high level. However, it is still slightly below the level recorded in the fourth quarter of 2024 (95.3%).
According to the German Pellets Institute (DEPI), the export share of 9.1% is remarkably low and also below the average of 14.8% recorded in the years from 2020 to 2024. The share of industrial pellets in the total production output is still very low. At 1.4%, though, it is twice as high as the average of last year.
